See is the first village in the Paznaun valley and is situated on the valley's right side. The town consists of a large number of farms and hamlets and the main village See - Au. The valley bottom used to be covered by a lake, hence the name of the town (See = lake). In the 13th century the settlement See was founded and mentioned for the first time in 1433 as "ze im Paznawn" (See in Paznaun).
